Nippon Day 5

06.07.16
Beaching and adventuring

We started the day off with our customary family mart yoghurt-and-bread breakfast and then got ready for another day at the beach. Once we'd slathered suncream onto our bodies and packed our beach bags, we rented a car and drove out to Yonehara beach, located in the north of Ishigaki. We parked the car and walked through some tall trees and bushes and emerged on the other side to a view over an azure ocean and a blindingly bright stretch of sand. Then we donned our diving masks and snorkels and waded out into the warm, clear water and were surprised by many small colourful fish so close to the shore. If you swam out a little, to some (unfortunately) dead coral reef, you could spot many more colourful and exotic-looking fish, and if you lay very still on the surface of the water, some of them would come and swim right under your body. It was very shallow and you could walk out into the ocean for many meters.
See these two? They were walking really far away.

They're the two dots you can see on the yellow stripe close to the horizon.

We ended up staying there for a good couple of hours and getting quite sunburnt.

We then moved on to Kabila Bay where we had a delicious lunch. After lunch we went out to look for a ride on a glass-bottomed boat because we'd heard that it was a very exciting trip and a recommended activity in this area but because of the taifun that's supposed to hit tomorrow, the last boat had gone out at 14:15 and wouldn't be going out again until the 8th. So we lingered for a while, had an ice cream and then drove on to the Oganzaki Lighthouse.

My noodles :)

Kabila Bay

You could tell there was some bad weather on its way...

The Oganzaki Lighthouse is situated on the edge of the western cape of Ishigaki and was built in the 80's but was never fully functional - it seems as though the lighthouse was built as a scenic-view-marker. Oganzaki was also mentioned in an old Japanese text as a place where the gods descended upon the Earth. An information board also informed us that the sea around this area was an excellent manta ray-sighting spot.

After spending some time here we drove the rental car back and were driven back to our hotel. After our big lunch we were not very hungry, so Michael, Philip, and I decided we'd have an onigiri (rice ball) dinner and mum and dad have just gone out to dinner. They said they were going for Okinawan steak (Philip: Typical. The day I say I'm not very hungry they go out for steak. Typical...)

The Worm's-eye View
Today we went to the beach!
I saw a aggressive fish that kept snapping at us, because we had walked into its territory. The water was shallow and warm. There were loads of corals that looked beautiful. We swam like, 100m from the beach into the sea. Even though we went so far I could still stand up, I'm basically 1m20cm ! Afterwards we had lunch (I had tempura!)
we also had ice cream! we went home and had fun. Anyway, thanks for reading, Bye!!!!!
